Meals on Wheels is more than just delivered food

During the first few months of the COVID-19 pandemic, Roberto signed up for Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque. In his younger days, Roberto was a successful construction worker. However, his life changed forever a few decades ago when a fall from a three-story building on a construction site left him permanently disabled.

During this trying year, Meals on Wheels has been a considerable help in alleviating some of Roberto’s daily stressors. Deliveries from Meals on Wheels are healthy, delicious and easy for him to microwave, which vastly improves the quality of his life every day. But for Roberto, easing the burden of cooking isn’t the only benefit of Meals on Wheel -- the program also helps him feel less alone.

“On Thursdays, [Meals on Wheels] brings me the paper,” Roberto said. “And on Mondays, Mary, my volunteer, calls me just to chat.”

For Roberto, the meals and support he receives are a real "relief."
